1 Corinthains 12:7

but the manifestation of the spirit is given to each one for the profit of all
this verse to me means that though we have these gifts from God which in and of itself is amazing to think about, because it's a gift from GOD! not from something that you did or a gift that everybody has, but God gave it to you! not everybody has that gift! but the realization of it is that this gift is not for us to show off to our friends, but our gift is for the better of one another! and it's not by our power but the power of the holy spirit that is in us.

my application
every night this month I will give thanks to God for whatever gifts that he's given me and ask him that he'd keep me humble in it.

Mark 8:38

for whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the son of man also will be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his father with the holy angels

this is kind of a slap to the face for me because even though it seems like this is only for somebody who is "ashamed" of him, but ashamed is quite a bit easier to have happen then I originally thought! I thought ashamed was more along the lines of didn't want  anything to do with that person or didn't say anything about them... but it can actually just be reluctant! the dictionary says that it is being reluctant to do something through fear of embarrassment or humiliation! the main word for me in that is reluctant! I've often found myself being reluctant towards something God has wanted me to do and to hear in this verse that that means I'm ashamed or at least in a slight bit... means I need to step up my game and change things, because I will not allow myself to be found ashamed of the God who gave me EVERYTHING, who sent his only son to die for me, who lived a life that at the end was so terrible that my worst nightmares couldn't even come close to! praise God for he has mercie and grace, but  I will not be ashamed of him, I won't be reluctant.

my application
to ask if I can pray with/for people that I don't know

Mark 8:37

or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
the main word that speaks to me is "exchange" it means to trade for something of the same type or the same value, but see... that doesn't really fit in our case because we're trading something that already isn't ours for something that we could never even dream of the value that the received item is worth! that to me is the grace, mercy, love and glory that our God is made of!

my application today is to apply myself to memorize two verses (Hebrews 11:1 and 2 Corinthians 1:12)

Mark 8:36

for what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?

profit and loss... they go hand and hand a lot of the time, but here they're put to two extremes. first we have profit, profit is to gain something that we didn't have. just think about it this way... what's the one present that you want the most for Christmas or your birthday... now remember your feeling when you got it? now what about a month from then, a year from then... do you even still use it? right, now you want something even better! you're never satisfied with what you have, you always want something else! now imagine having the whole world! with everything in it! you still wouldn't be happy! you'd still long for something else, because our soul longs for Jesus! but when we get so caught up in pursuing earthly things, we have less time pursuing what really matters and that is pursuing Christ! when we fully pursue God... ready for this?... we are more satisfied with nothing, then somebody would be if they had the whole world! and not only is pursuing the world a path to dissatisfaction, but also destruction and hell! (not trying to be all turn or burn, flip or fry... but it's the truth) Jesus satisfies us and gives us the most amazing gift! not only the most amazing relationship ever! but eternal life! praise God!

application
today I will spend all of my free time to pursue God

Mark 8:35

for whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it

whoever. that doesn't mean most or some, that means everybody! either you want to save your life and therefor lose your life (present and eternal) (present because you're living for nothing, nothing that's going to last) and (eternal because you're not living for Christ and Jesus is the only way to heaven)
OR
you lay down/give your life to Christ and not only do you live for something more/not getting caught up in things that aren't important, but you get to go to heaven! heaven! the most amazing place ever! all because you decided to give up your life to follow the call to pick up our cross and follow him! yes this life will be hard and full of trials, but it is also abundant with blessings and peach from God

application   I will lay down my flesh and wake up at five to spend time with God

1 Corinthians 12:4

"there are diversities of gifts, but the same spirit"
I like this verse because it tells me that we're different from one another, but we're all a part of the body of Christ! we may not be the best speaker or we don't speak in tongues and such, but we all do have gifts that God has given us and we can use those gifts to not only glorify God with whatever gift he's given us... but we can also use it to help the body of Christ (which is the church) if we were all mouths then we wouldn't be able to move because we wouldn't have any feet likewise if we were all feet we wouldn't be able to get the word out because well... we don't have a mouth... and so on and so forth. God has blessed each of us with a gift from the spirit, it's just a matter of realizing what it is

my application
to pray every morning that he would show me my spiritual gift and then once I figure it out... use it so I get better with it. only time will tell what that means though
